Pro Speaker Content just landed back in Los Angeles after a week in Boston at HubSpot’s INBOUND 15 conference. We’ll be sharing more in-depth recaps from the digital marketing conference throughout the week, but in the meantime here are a few of our favorite INBOUND 15 moments.
Seth Godin and the art of the quotable quip
If you’ve read Seth Godin’s books, or his blog, or seen him speak before, you already know that he’s the king of quotable quips. His kickoff keynote at INBOUND 15 was no exception. In a 45-minute speech that felt like a mere 10 minutes, he reminded us that “people like us do things like this. .. You have to be the person who says, ‘I will do that!,’ not, ‘Is this my job?’”
A few more Seth-isms from the keynote:
- There’s no such thing as writer’s block, because there’s no such thing as talker’s block.
- The way we make change happen is by doing something that might not work.
- You already have what you need. Now go forward.
#Humansofinbound and Dan Sally’s Mullet
In a conference with 13,000 attendees, it’s impossible to get to know everyone. Maybe that’s why INBOUND Host Dan Sally kicked off Day 2 with a not-so-subtle plea: Connect with the other INBOUNDers through a shared humanity. For some, the hashtag #humansofinbound was paired with a selfie from the conference floor. For others, like Dan Sally himself, it accompanied a snapshot from our earlier days and the embarassing haircuts that defined them. If there’s one photo we associate with INBOUND 15, it’s Dan Sally’s senior portrait and all that mullet glory.
Comedy marketing geek-out
Conferences are notorious for being dry and boring. INBOUND 15 turned that misconception on its head by scheduling some pretty non-traditional headliners: mainly, comedians Marc Maron, Amy Schumer and Aziz Ansari. Sure, Aziz was there to talk about his new book, Modern Romance, but he still managed to captivate the crowd during his 9 a.m. performance (INBOUND will never think about water cups the same way again). The real comedic highlight was Amy Schumer, who made a packed room of marketing geeks let loose. More on Amy and Aziz in a coming post.
High production value at every turn
Our CEO made it a point to tell the INBOUND production team that they made everything look and feel as glamorous as Hollywood — purple lighting, white leather couches, 80s music and, of course, an unlimited supply of Dunkin Donuts coffee. But between Club INBOUND, the main stage and many breakout rooms, the Lawn on D was the true representation of the INBOUND 15 demographic. From the smells and flavors of the food truck to the well-manicured shrubbery showcasing the INBOUND logo, to the quirky and modern swings, this is where the #humansofinbound truly came to swap ideas.
At Pro Speaker Content, we’re reinventing the conference and the speaker industry through cutting-edge content and unforgettable experiences. Stay tuned for more posts, photos and videos from INBOUND 15.
